Allowance Rates for Public Servants – Viwango Vipya vya Posho Serikalini 2024
The Tanzanian government announced a significant increase in allowance levels for public servants starting in 2022. This move was aimed at improving the interests of employees and recognizing their contribution to nation building. Among the increased allowances are subsistence allowance and special work allowance.
Here, Habariforum will highlight these changes in detail, their impact on employees and the economy in general, as well as complete information about the new levels of allowances in the government. Also, it will explain some other important allowances provided to public servants and their importance in the implementation of their duties.
1. Travel Subsistence Allowances
From July 2022, subsistence allowances for public servants traveling on business have increased. Currently, the maximum travel allowance is 250,000 shillings , up from 120,000 shillings, while the minimum amount is 100,000 shillings , up from 80,000 shillings. This increase is a sign of recognizing the cost of living challenges faced by workers when they are on the go.
2. Allowance for Special Work
Public employees who do special work have also received an increase in allowances. The current rates are as follows:
Low level: From Sh15,000 to Sh30,000 per day.
Middle level: From Sh20,000 to Sh40,000 per day.
Upper level: Remaining at the level of Sh30,000 per day.
These reforms have increased the motivation for workers to work hard, as they know that special jobs will provide them with additional income to run their lives.
3. Sitting Allowance
Employees who participate in national meetings such as boards, special committees, and staff committees will receive meeting allowances according to Government Service Circular No. 2 of 2010.
Tanzania Technical and Electrical Agency (TEMESA) has confirmed that these allowances will be paid to special sessions approved by the relevant authorities, while stressing that regular sessions will not be eligible for allowance except with special permission from the Chief Executive.
4. Lunch Allowance
The government has also strengthened the levels of food allowance for civil servants, where currently the maximum level is 200,000 shillings per month per employee, depending on the capacity of the relevant work center in production and revenue collection. A center that has not reached this level can still request permission to increase the level from the Chief Executive of the institution concerned.
5. Travel Allowance
Permanent and contract public employees, who do not use office vehicles, will be paid a travel allowance of 80,000 shillings per month. This will help reduce the burden of transportation costs for those employees when they go to work every day.
6. Extra Duty Allowance
The government has set special levels of allowances for workers who do extra work. The overtime allowance will be paid according to the available work, but there is a limit to the number of days the employee is allowed to work overtime per month:
Office assistants, drivers and menial staff:Â Not more than 10 days per month.
Officers and Managers:Â Not more than 5 days per month.
7. Travel Allowance
For public servants who travel on business, the levels of travel allowances have been approved according to existing laws and procedures. The employees are required to manage the best use of the travel budget to ensure that there is efficiency in the implementation of their duties without spending a lot of unproductive money.
8. Car Wash Allowance
For the drivers of the offices of the Ministry of Construction and Transport, the Technical and Electrical Agency of Tanzania (TEMESA), the Government has paid a monthly car wash allowance to ensure that the cars are clean at all times. This standard is set to:
