Local Governments are interpreted as citizens’ bodies that are created, run, managed and accountable to the citizens. Here in Tanzania, these bodies have been established in accordance with Articles 145 and 146 of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, Chapter 2, which carry the concept of devolution of power.
You should understand that Local Governments are the part of the government that is closest to the people and provides services that are in line with the needs of the people in their area.
Sifa za Mgombea Wa Serikali za Mitaa 2024
1. The candidate must not have been found guilty of dishonesty in the five years preceding the date of the election.
2. The candidate must not have a mental illness certified by a doctor recognized by the government or a medical board.
3. The candidate must be a member of a political party and has been endorsed by that political party.
4. He must have a legal activity to enable him to live and be a resident of the local area in that area.
5. The candidate must be a citizen of Tanzania.
6. The candidate must have age of 21 years or older.
7. The candidate should be able to read and write Kiswahili or English.
Responsibilities of Local Government Authorities
It is good to know that the activities and responsibilities of MSM are divided into the following groups:
1. Providing community services
2. To maintain a favorable economic environment
3. Implement development programs
4. Providing protection and security services
5. Involving citizens in making decisions
6. Managing the use of funds and accountability
7. To make clear the operation of their duties.
Voter Qualifications (Sifa za Mpiga Kura)
Any resident (Tanzanian citizen) will have the right to shoot
vote if he has the following qualities:-
i) is a citizen of Tanzania;
ii) is eighteen years of age or older;
iii) is a resident of the relevant Neighborhood or Street area;
iv) does not have a mental illness confirmed by a Doctor
recognized by the Government or Medical Board; and
v) has registered to vote in a Township or Street
