In 1991, the former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, the late Ali Hassan Mwinyi, appointed the Commission under the Chairmanship of the late retired Chief Justice Francis Nyalali.

The purpose of the Commission was to collect the opinions of the people on continuing with the one-party system or having a multi-party political system.

As a result of the Commission’s report, Article 3(1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania in 1977 was amended to make Tanzania a multi-party system.

Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC Tanzania

The Independent National Electoral Commission has been established in accordance with article 74(1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977.

Considering the provisions of article 74(7) and (11) of the Constitution and article 6(1) ) of the Law of the Independent National Election Commission No. 2 of the Year 2024

The Commission is an independent independent department and makes its official decisions regarding the implementation of its duties in meetings.

In carrying out its constitutional duties, the Commission will not have to follow the orders or instructions of any person or any department of the Government or the opinion of any political party.

ELECTORAL CYCLE IN TANZANIA

The Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977, Article 65 directs that the General Elections of the President, Members of Parliament and Councillors be held after every five (5) years.

Electoral Sytems In Tanzania

The Electoral System in use in Tanzania is First-Past-the post. This is in accordance with Article 41 (6) of the Constitution of the United Republic of 1977. That means the presidential, parliamentary and Councilor’s Candidates who get majority votes is declared the winner.

Furthermore there are Special Seats Women Representatives allocated to political Parties depending on the number of valid votes each political party obtained in Parliamentary Election.

This is in accordance with Article 78 (1) of the Constitution and Article 112 and 113 of the Presidential, Parliamentary and Councilor’s Election Act number 1 of 2024.

Dear voter, start the initial process of improving the voter’s information through the internet. After completing this step, you will have to come to the registration center in the relevant ward to complete the process and be given a voter’s card.

Updating information will involve correcting or changing personal information, changing the channel and correcting or changing personal information and changing the channel by pressing the relevant button.

I. CORRECTING OR CHANGING PERSONAL INFORMATION

1. To correct or change personal information, the voter will have to do the following: –

i. fill in the voter number;

ii. fill in the year of birth;

iii. to fill in the National Identification Number (NIDA); and

iv. fill in the phone number that is currently in use.

2. The information obtained after filling in the National Identification Number (NIDA) will be used in the Permanent Register of Voters.

II. MOVE STATION

1. To transfer voter information from one electoral area to another, the voter will have to do the following: –

i. fill in the voter’s number;

ii. fill in the year of birth;

iii. fill in the phone number currently in use; and

iv. to choose the county he wants to move to.

2. The voter will choose the ward he wants to move to and will have to come to the relevant ward center to complete the process and be given a card.

III. CORRECTING OR CHANGING PERSONAL INFORMATION AND MOVING FACILITIES

1. To correct or change personal information and transfer information from the previous station to another station, the voter should do the following: –

i. fill in the voter number;

ii. fill in the year of birth;

iii. fill in the National Identification Number (NIDA); and

iv. fill in the phone number that is currently in use.

2. The information obtained after filling in the National Identification Number (NIDA) will be used in the Permanent Register of Voters.
