CANDIDATES’ ITEM RESPONSE ANALYSIS (CIRA) REPORTS FORM FOUR CSEE 2014
The Examiners’ Report on the Performance of the candidates for the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) 2014 was prepared so as to provide feedback to students, teachers, policy makers and other education stakeholders on the candidates’ performance in this subject.
The report identifies the reasons for the candidates’ good performance and it also points out some of the factors which accounts for the inability of some candidates to provide correct answers to the given questions.
The analysis of the different items was conducted in order to identify the different misconceptions and errors which occurred in answering the questions. In addition, the report shows the percentage of the candidates who performed well, moderately and poorly in each question.
The reasons noted for the poor performance of some candidates include inability to identify and / or understand the demands of the questions, lack of knowledge of the subject matter, inability to interpret concepts in a comprehension passage and inadequate English language skills.
The Council expects that the feedback provided and the suggested recommendations in this report will enable various education stakeholders to take appropriate measures to improve the future performance in this subject.
The National Examinations Council of Tanzania will highly appreciate comments and suggestions from teachers, students and the general public that can be used to improve future Examiners Reports.
